When Emma told me that they knew they wanted to have part of their engagement session in their apartment, I KNEW it was going to be a good day. Talking with her on our initial phone call was so much fun and I instantly knew that I was going to adore her and her fiance Daniel. PLUS they had cats, so I mean it was game over right then. They had my heart already.

I’ve been doing a lot of education lately on how to create better client experiences and sessions and safe spaces for love stories to exist. And one thing that has helped me to do that is asking my clients what their love languages are.

For Emma and Daniel, theirs were quality time and physical touch. As soon as I learned that, coupled with the want for an in home part of their session, only one thing popped in my head instantly.

Let’s make cookies.

Which was perfect because it turns out that Emma is an amazing baker!! She loves to make goodies ranging from cookies all the way over to donuts, and let me tell you what. They look darn good too. Daniel wholeheartedly agrees.

Once I got to their adorable apartment in the city, they set right to work rolling out the cookie dough together as a team and we just started chatting. We talked about our crazy cats, their jobs, our mutual love of baking, and things they love to do together like movie nights and going for walks in their neighborhood. Emma is doing an amazing job planning their wedding so far and I truly can’t wait for October to come!

While those yummy chocolatey cookies were baking, they just spent some time together in the kitchen and their laughter and smiles naturally just drew them closer to each other until they were slow dancing in the kitchen and wrapped up in each others arms. That darn stove timer broke the silence but hey that meant COOKIES!!!

While the cookies were cooling on their baking racks, they ventured over to their living room for some snuggles with each other and their kitties who were very curious and even posed for some photos! We shared some cookies and then got dressed to go explore their neighborhood and go for a walk together. They are so laid back and in love, you can clearly see that whenever they are together, THAT is home for them. Home is wherever they are together. 🙂

After venturing down some gorgeous tree lined streets that still had some color to them, Daniel practiced his dipping skills and man he has it DOWN. I heard, “I haven’t done this before”, but after he dipped Emma I found that hard to believe. That dip was PERFECTLY executed and that photo turned out amazing. Exploring their streets was filled with giggles and mini stories starring these two main characters and all their love for each other.

I think my most favorite part was the end of session solo ring shot. There were a few pretty yellow leaves and I said, “OO can I get your ring real quick? It’ll look super cool against these and the curb of this garden.” Little did I know that they would get into this idea too, and before I knew it, they were both on the hunt for the best and brightest colored leaves in the area. I felt like a lady penguin being presented with the bestest rock and it was awesome. I have no idea where they found these super bright red leaves but I tossed my lil yellow ones out so fast haha. Emma’s ring POPPED against those gorgeous things and made for a really awesome photo.

I had so much fun with them and getting to know them better during this session and so can’t wait for their wedding day. Scroll on down to see what it was like during our session and how absolutely adorable they are!!
